SMS / text messages
Fix It First text-message program
Fix It First is a service businesses use to collect reports about issues at their locations and reply with status updates. This page explains exactly how a person opts in to receiving text-message updates from us, what those updates look like, and how to opt out.
Program name
Fix It First — issue-report status updates.
Who sends the messages
Messages are sent by Fix It First (fixitfirst.app) on behalf of the business that operates the location a person reported an issue about.
How to opt in
- A customer scans a Fix It First QR code or follows a link printed by the business (for example, a sticker in a cafe). This opens that location's report form.
- The customer fills out the form to submit an issue or piece of feedback. The form has an optional mobile phone field.
- Below the phone field, the customer must tick an unchecked SMS-consent checkbox (shown to the right) to opt in. The checkbox is unchecked by default. Submitting the form without checking the box does not opt the customer in.
- After the customer submits with the box checked, Fix It First may send text updates about that specific report (for example: an acknowledgement and later a status update when the issue is resolved).
Providing a phone number alone, without checking the consent box, never opts a person in. We do not opt anyone in by SMS, by phone call, by email, or by oral consent — only by an affirmative click on the consent checkbox on the report form.

Message frequency, costs, carriers
Message frequency varies based on the activity of the report a customer submitted — typically 1–4 messages per report. Message and data rates may apply. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
How to get help — reply HELP
Reply HELP (or INFO) to any message and you will receive a reply identifying Fix It First and explaining how to opt out and how to contact support.
How to opt out — reply STOP
Reply STOP (or CANCEL, END, QUIT, UNSUBSCRIBE) to any message at any time and you will be unsubscribed immediately. We will send one final confirmation that you have been unsubscribed and will not message that number again unless you opt back in by submitting a new report with the SMS consent box checked.
Privacy
We do not share, sell, rent, or disclose mobile phone numbers or SMS opt-in consent data with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Mobile numbers are used only to send updates related to the report a customer submitted. Full details are in our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
What the consent UI looks like on the report form
Verbatim from /r/<business>/<location>
Optional — only used for text updates if you check the SMS consent box below.
The above is a static, disabled mock of the actual consent control on the live report form. The checkbox is unchecked by default; the customer must affirmatively check it to opt in.
